Blue Like Jazz Movie

Blue Like Jazz has been a book at the top of my list for several years. I truly enjoyed how Donald Miller simply presented Christ to the masses. His presentation wasn’t a Christian self-help book or some sort of whim about how this prayer will change your life. He elegantly reveals one man’s attempt to share Christ.

Move forward a few years and he get’s contact by Steve Taylor. Yes, that Steve Taylor and how he wants to option the book from Don. Don spends his time thinking about the story we are telling and what conflict in a story means. He questions the reader to ask, “what is the story you are telling?” Through a series of circumstances, don writes a book about the account and then , before you know it, the movie loses funding.

In drops two strangers who help build the financial support the movie needs, one dollar at a time, through KickStarter. The movie gets funded and Steve Finishes the film.

Now I await in excitement!

Couch Guitar Straps

I think Couch Guitar Straps has a good thing going for them! Couch upcylced, 30-40 year old actual vintage, deadstock upholstery vinyl originally intended to reupholster 70’s Volkswagen Beetles and 80’sRabbits and Jettas VW seat covers, to make these great guitar strapsbelts and camera straps!  Who would have thunk?

I think these straps look killer!   In fact their straps are vegan too!

When it comes to our straps being vegan, it’s not that we’re freaks or anything, it’s just that when it came to making guitar straps, we were not into purchasing the actual hides of leather and then stamping the tabs out of asymmetric sides of beef before sewing them on our straps. The buying and selling of animal skin carcasses was a little too weird for us, thanks.  – Couch

I love it when art and functionality meet!

Proverbs 15, 1-7

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
A fool despises his father’s instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is prudent.
In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked.
The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.

The Muse Of It All

Last week Paste posted an article about the band Muse.  The band may arguably be one of the biggest acts in the world.  Since the band’s inception, the group has consisted of Matthew Bellamy (lead vocals, guitars, piano, keyboards, keytar), Christopher Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals, keyboards, guitars, harmonica) and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion, synthesisers, backing vocals, sampling, harmtar).  This is impressive for a band to hold onto all it’s original members for so long!

Matt is currently working on a few projects of his own.  He is engaged to Kate Hudson and they are expecting their first child.  And respectably, Matt is taking abreak.

However, Chris wants to get started with the new record and he is going to get started with or without Matt.

“Matt’s raised the bar quite high in terms of songwriting,” Wolstenholme said. “I’m a bit nervous because I don’t want to write a song and it be responsible for the demise of the band.”

I have to commend Chris.  This is a brave step to take, considering that Chris was “pissed” drunk for “The Resistance” sessions and only came in to do his parts.  Having sobered up since, Chris feels like he can take on the task of laying out all the major songwriting of their follow up record.  My hat goes off to you, buddy!  Make it so!

Battles A Battle

Rarely does a band come by that make me want to scream for excitement.  Rock often feel mundane to me.

However, Battles seems to math rock accessible.  I was concerned what Battles would sound like without Tyondai Braxton.  Touring is hard and often singular focused.  Don’t worry Tyondai, I understand and if you ever in Austin, let me know, I’ll buy you a drink!

But Battles continue to war on!  I should have never discounted Ian Williams (formerly of Don Caballero and Storm & Stress), Dave Konopka, and drummer John Stanier.  They have continued to create engaging rock with all of the items that made their last record wonderful.

The future Is Now!

Since I was a kid, I have always been excited about the future!

Sometimes, I run around downtown Austin yelling, “The future is now!”

And it is!  Think about it.

future / noun?/?fyo?oCH?r/
The time or a period of time following the moment of speaking or writing; time regarded as still to come
Events that will or are likely to happen in the time to come
Used to refer to what will happen to someone or something in the time to come
A prospect of success or happiness
A tense of verbs expressing events that have not yet happened

At one point, we existed in the presence and dreamt about moments in the future.  As the technology progressed and as the presence caught, we migrated forward.  And eventually we catch up with that moment of the future we dreamt about!

Now some disagree with me.  But the future is now!
